Quote
Tamil is our Mother Tongue Language. Children should be made to understand this and learn their Mother Tongue language with enthusiasm. In today’s environment, children find it difficult to speak in Tamil. Teachers have a great responsibility in creating an apt environment to enable children to speak in Tamil. As teachers, we should ensure that Tamil sustains as a living language. I use relevant activities, purposeful play, and learning centres to increase children’s interest in learning Tamil. Through these activities students are engaged in joyful learning and opportunities are provided for them to learn more about their culture and heritage. I facilitate as a guide in the classroom and tap on various strategies such as group discussions, moral stories, songs etc to arouse children’s interest in Tamil language.

The use of familiar characters in the puppet show made it even more enjoyable for the children. The main activity of the lesson involved the children preparing the dough and rolling it into flatbreads for chapati making in which she incorporates values and cultural elements promoting children’s emotional intelligence and empathy.
