தேசிய நூலக வாரியத்தின் நூல் சேகரிப்புத் திட்டமிடல் மேம்பாட்டுக் குழுவின் நூலகரான திருவாட்டி ரேணு சிவா, சிறுவர், இளையர் வாசிப்புத் நிகழ்ச்சிகளிலும் சேவைகளிலும் 10 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலான அனுபவமும் நிபுணத்துவமும் பெற்றவர். ஆங்கிலம், தமிழ் ஆகிய இருமொழிகளிலுள்ள சிறுவர்கள், இளையர்களுக்குரிய தொகுப்புகள் முதலியவை குறித்து நன்கு அறிந்தவர். உள்ளடக்க மேம்பாடு, புத்தக மன்றங்கள், நூல் சேகரிப்புப் பரிந்துரைகள், சிறுவர் இளையர்களுக்கான நிகழ்ச்சிகள் போன்ற பல்வேறு திட்டங்களை அவர் வழிநடத்தி வருகிறார். சிறுவர்கள், இளையர்கள், பெற்றோர்கள், கல்வியாளர்கள் ஆகிய பல தரப்பினர்களுக்கும் அவர் பகிர்வுகளையும் பயிலரங்குகளையும் நடத்தியுள்ளார்.

A librarian from the Collection Planning & Development team in National Library Board, Ms Renu Siva has over 10 years of experience in library work, specializing in children and teen programmes and services. She is well versed with the junior and young peoples’ collection in the libraries in both English and Tamil languages. She handles a variety of projects from content development, book clubs, collection promotion and programmes for children and teens, and has conducted related sharing sessions and workshops for children, teens, parents and educators.

Synopsis

Early literacy equips children with tools to become successful readers and lifelong learners. These skills allow a child to enter primary school with a love for books and a readiness to learn. Exposure to reading in their Mother Tongue lays a strong foundation for language learning. This session will focus on why early literacy is important, when to introduce Tamil books to children, and how to get them started on reading. A step-by-step guide to reading and effective strategies that supports language development and communication skills will be shared by the speaker. The speaker will also share suitable Tamil resources and books.
