Ms Li Li has 24 years of pre-school teaching experience. She was a Senior Chinese Language Teacher at Creative O Preschoolers’ Bay for 15 years, during which she pioneered a comprehensive curriculum to promote Chinese reading among pre-schoolers. With 6 years’ experience in the Professional Development of pre-school Chinese Language teachers, she is currently a trainer at the National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC), a part-time lecturer at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and is still passionately coaching pre-school teachers in Creative O Foundation. She is also a regular speaker and trainer at conferences and workshops, including the International Conference on Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language.

Language development in early childhood is crucial to acquiring sound foundational knowledge, skills and dispositions in one’s Mother Tongue Language (MTL) that will facilitate children’s learning in later years. The importance of learning Chinese in the early years and the use of strategies to provide children with a head start will be explored in this session. Factors that influence children’s language and literacy, along with the sharing of relevant language activities and tips on enhancing children’s learning in Chinese will also be shared.
