Profile
The Chinese Teachers team at Zhangde Primary School, consisting of Mdm Phang Huey Wen, Mdm Yang Xiaoqi, Ms Xie Ying, and Mdm Samantha Chung, emphasise the importance of nurturing students' communication skills and developing learning dispositions that equip them for future learning and life challenges. They have deployed multi-modal approaches to pique students’ interest and build students’ confidence in the language through intentionally playful teaching and learning (T&L) practices.

体验性学习设计旨在倡导让孩子们朝着特定的学习目标,通过有趣、欢乐的方式进行探索、实验以及解决难题。
这组老师特别为低年级学生设计了一款华文桌游,供他们与同学和家人一起玩乐。学生在过程中可以发挥创意,针对游戏进行改良或创新,从而提升学习兴趣,巩固所学。工作坊能让参与者了解游戏学习的概念和设计原理,以及激发孩子们的创新和适应性思维的方法,鼓励学生将学习融入生活。家长还有机会着手设计一套适合自己与孩子在家中互动、学习的游戏卡。
Synopsis
Purposeful Play, whether teacher or student-directed, entails intentional design of activities to promote learning and development towards certain learning goals. It encourages students to explore, experiment and problem-solve in a fun and meaningful way.
The team has designed a dynamic and versatile Chinese Board Game suitable for lower primary learners to play with their peers and family members in as many ways as they can think of. By “having a say” in how to play, students take ownership of play and are eager revisit newly taught content.
In this workshop, participants will learn the concept of Purposeful Play as well as understand the rationale and considerations behind game design. The team will also share how they promote the learning of Chinese Language at home and how to stimulate children’s innovation and adaptive thinking beyond the classroom. Parents will also have the opportunity to design a set of game cards suitable for interactive Chinese Language learning with their children at home.
